Study Shows Phototherapy Improves Vision In Aging Retinas

The cells in our retinas, our photoreceptors, age more quickly than other cells in our body.  After the age of 40 many notice a decline in color vision and night vision.  While eating your carrots is always a good idea, researchers at the university College of London investigated whether daily brief exposure to red light would improve vision in adults aged 27 through 68.  The findings were published on June 29, 2020 in the Journals of Gerontology: Series A.

Investigators found that a 3 minute exposure to a low wattage, 670 nm (red) light on a daily basis, improved color contrast sensitivity to blue in those over 40 by about 20%.  In addition, three-quarters of all test subjects showed improved night vision!  You can read the full article here: https://www.aoa.org/news/clinical-eye-care/recharging-the-retina?refer=rss
